In addition to this Toshiba rice cooker, over the past 25 years we have had two zojirushi “fuzzy logic” (as they used to be called) models (all from amazon). All claim to balance cooking time to rice/water so you get perfect results every time, and all have worked pretty well (family of chronic estimators when it comes to weights and measures!)
The first Zojirushi lasted twice as long as the second one, but they both lasted multiple years so can’t complain. This year, we wanted to try a model with the carb-reducing technology, and this Toshiba model had that, plus all the zojirushi abilities, at a lower price point. I should add that we briefly tried, and returned, the more popular but super-pricey Cuckoo model as not being good value for money.
We are very happy with this Toshiba brand. Rice comes out perfectly regardless of the setting. It counts down in minutes from when you press the start button (Zojirushis only showed minutes for last ten minutes). Carb-reduced rice takes longer but tastes great. The steam function is new.
It doesn’t keep the rice warm quite as well as the Zojiruishi’s in that it’s a tad dryer in the Toshiba. That’s not a big concern for us because most of it gets eaten and what doesn’t is eaten for lunch the next day, but if you want to keep rice warm for a long time, this might not be the best one for that.
It feels well constructed, it opens and closes with a satisfying thunk, the metal basket for steaming and carb reduction is not thin (as on other models) and the machine itself is that shiny kind of white I associate with sci-fi films like WALL-E (it reminds me of Eve from that film, so I’ve named it).
Overall, highly recommended.

My wife’s culture is to eat rice every night. Over the years we’ve had all sorts of cheap rice cookers (in the $60 range) which were workhorses. This time we moved uptown a bit and got the smart version. Oh my what a difference. It requires retraining for sure but so worth it. Rice is cooked wonderfully and stays at right temp for long time with no drying out. Easy regret as well. Small footprint.

Classy design, high quality material, user friendly, great rice taste but this is not for Asian kitchen, I have no idea that Toshiba Japanese company doesn’t know that Asian rice cooker keep warm function is really important to keep warm as long as customer needed, usually Asian cooked rice for 2-3 days meal so everyday you have to redo keep warm other than that your rice cold like a rock when you need.

I have had this rice cooker for the last three years and I have to say that it is one of the best ones I have ever used. The rice always comes out soft, flakey, and absolutely delicious — always retaining the flavor and never over cooking it.
I also like the fact that I can use it both in the United States and Japan without issue. I know that there can be a risk in using appliances not designed for either country, and the instruction manual does state that this rice cooker is for the United States only, but it has faired me well in Kansai, where I currently live.
Toshiba always makes great products both here and in America, and if I ever get an opportunity to buy new appliances, I always go with Toshiba.

I really do love this rice cooker. Using the low carb setting does give tasty rice that doesn’t spike my blood sugar.
Unfortunately I have a puppy that is part mountain goat and can get up onto the counter where the rice cooker parts were drying and awaiting reassembly. The steam valve unit was too enticing and is loaded with puppy bite marks now. Chat with Toshiba-lifestyle was easy, but sadly they do not have any replacement parts for this model. They also have no replacement puppies.
I hope they will in the future. In the meantime, I bought another off of Aliexpress for a much lower price to strip for parts.

The best rice cooker I’ve ever used. It was well worth the upgrade from a YumAsia Panda Mini. The top lid is removable and easy to clean. I’ve used it at least 30 times and it still looks good as new.
I don’t have any issues with the cooker but the following may be issues to some people. When I first used the cooker there was a strong electronics smell coming out of the bottom, so far it’s gone now. It has an internal fan that automatically turns on and off when needed. It’s always drawing power when plugged in (it displays the time and keeps the buttons lit). It only has a nondetachable two prong cord (no ground and slightly sparks every time I plug it in).
Putting those minor issues aside it feels like a high quality rice cooker.

We cook rice everyday and have used various types of rice cookers over the years.
By far, this has been the the best. Perfectly cooked rice, every time. Right texture and moisture!
Very pleased.
Only downside : takes a little longer than a stove top pressure cooker.
Keep warm feature works very well.

We love this rice cooker. The rice comes out perfectly every time. Jasmine rice has such a good mouth-feel, basmati is long and elegant. Brown rice is perfectly textured. As a busy family that depends heavily on our rice cooker, we recommend this one. It’s fast, reliable and easy to work with.

I was really hesitant to spend the extra money and stepup from my manual rice cooker. The flavor, quality and ease of use of the product made the expense worth it. The size is perfect to allow flexible portions for two. The taste is far better than pressure cooked rice as well.

This makes perfect rice every time. Lousy manual, no tech support. I had a problem trying to make ‘sticky/glutinous’ rice and could not get any help. After 3 tries I finally got it right.
Making brow jasmine rice, several Goya rice mixes, following pkg directions, all came out perfect.
In case you are not familiar with rice cookers… They all have one common characteristic that really makes them great. You put the ingredients in, press start and when done they switch to warm until you are ready to eat.
There are two groups of rice cookers.
The first group work by heat. When the liquid boils off they switch to warm. These work really well and are cheap. A good ‘Aroma’ brand one is only about $30. (The better of this group has a brown rice setting, best choice) One thing about this group. The bottom layer if rice tends to get browned or toasted. Many people love this part, and there is even a special name for it in Spanish, but I dont remember it. The rice is very good, and I used one of these for more than 20 years. The rice is a little drier than the next group
The second group (Basically the Toshiba & Zojirushi group) are ‘ fuzzy logic’ cookers. They cook the rice by monitoring the humidity and temp of the rice. Thse make perfect, moist rice every time. Most have settings for multiple rice and grain types. They also mage good oatmeal and have timers so your cooking can start at anytime. Nice to get up to good hot oatmeal w/o cooking! The catch is that they sre more expensive. A Toshiba is about $120, the Z is about $170.
If you like rice, start with a basic one that has a brown rice setting, about $30-40. If you like it, you may want to move up to one of the better ones in the second group.
I always loved ruce & rice dishes. Living several years in Central and South America only reinforced that. My wife never liked rice much. When I upgraded to the Toshiba, she started liking rice. More moist, no toasted layer.
Another suggestion. I virtually always make rice with chicken stick or chicken broth. Really adds a lot to it.
