Truth for You –
For physical platter-style hard drives, quality levels have gone down! But not for the Toshiba X300 Pro. Before I landed on this drive, I tried:
• 20 TB Seagate Exos – dead on arrival
• 10 TB Western Digital Black – would crash during format no matter what, even in differing OS’s!
• 6 TB Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC310 – awesome enterprise drive but came USED and was twice as loud as the Toshiba.
I used this drive to store 12 TB of data from my RAID 5 video content before building a new RAID 5 and then transferred all the data once complete. So it’s first use was dealing with 24 TB of data! And the read/write performance is surprising: I’m getting upwards of 280 MB/s, I’m very surprised… and happy!

If you made it this far you are lucky. Do not buy this drive, especially the 12TB one as the one I got did not work. First hard drive I have ever bought (and I have bought hundreds) that did not work out of the box. I mean a lot of people are saying this quits working after a few months or what not, but this one never worked to begin with, just made clicking noises from the very beginning. Not sure how it is even possible that it made it out of the factory. Another reason not to buy, there is no warranty on these because they were sold through a 3rd party, so I did not read the reviews prior to buying but others have mentioned it too, if you go to Toshiba’s website and plug in the Serial Number it will tell you its out of warranty. Oh, and its even a hassle to return now, had to wait for days to get a label, and the return address is in Canada. Stay away from this seller, far far AWAY!

About Toshiba X300 16 TB Pro version. The drive is good. You can tall right away, that this is a premium quality product. The warranty is not provided by Toshiba itself, but by a third party. It’s not a big deal!
Makes tapping noises under load, but in idle it’s absolutely quiet.
It was delivered in a paper padded mailer, not in a cardboard box. Which is a strange decision. But the OEM box is well done. I’m pretty sure you can play football with it and it won’t harm the drive.
